refreshing data sets and excluding xlsx data from refresh

Hi All,

I have created a report in Desktop and published it to the service. I now want to schedule refresh my data, which consits of five web api call (no issue) and one xlsx saved locally on my PC.

I don't need the xlsx to update as its static information. However I need to update the web data.

I thought I could remedy this by publishing my xlsx to power bi and then changing my dataset in the service to the uploaded data set . However this does not seem possible.

I have also tried turning off the setting in desktop to not "include in report refresh".

What else can I do?

Thanks

Instead of sourcing from an Excel file use the manual data entry in Power Query. Copy/paste the Excel data into that data entry dialog.

Hi @emmjay

Thanks for reaching out to us.

You can use the method lbendlin  said, if your excel file data is relatively large, you can save a copy, then connect Power BI Desktop to that copy, which will not be updated.
