questions about using power bi apps

we are considering to shift from using workspaces to power bi apps , i have been reading and exploring about it and i have some few questions that i would  appreciate to have answers for

1- datasets:

sometimes my users need to refresh the report while  they are using it however i cant find datasets to refresh inside the app. i dont want to give those users  access to the workpsace they only have access to the app so they need to do the refresh from the app.

how can i view datasets in the app and refresh it inside the app?

2-Usage Metrics:

within a workspace: we canopen the report and from the upper menu we can press on the 3 dots and the choose : view usage metrics

how can i view usage metrics for a report in the app??

3- access:

in the workspace: we have permission levels like: admin, contributers, viewrs. how are these permission levels maintaind in the app?

forexample, i dont want people who have access to the app to have the access to edit the app. so how can i know the limitations for the app users ?

4- once we open the app it takes me directly to the first report exists in the app, is there a  way i can create just a page with some text and put it as the first thing user can see in the app?

5- if a have file like excel, or a video forexample that i want to share with users in the app and these filesexist in my desktop. is there a way to share files from my desktop?

6- how can i make a customized theme color for the app?

i really appreciate answering these questions as its very important to clarify these points to my company.

Hi @lawada ,

1. The datasets in app are the same in the workspace. You can configure the scheduled refresh for these datasets. If users need to refresh manually, they can manually refresh the datasets in the workspace.

2.You will find the App Usage Metrics on the same Usage Metric Report as the Workspace one. Please see the section about the "Distribution Method" slicer:https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/collaborate-share/service-usage-metrics#which-metrics-are-...

3.In short, the workspace is a carrier of app. An app corresponds to a workspace . If the user has edit permission in the workspace, he will have the same permissions on the app.Set the user to the viewer role in workspace and set the correct app permission.https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/collaborate-share/service-create-distribute-apps#allow-use...

4.Yes, create your report and update the app. Put the report on this page to the first one in the navigation.

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/collaborate-share/service-create-distribute-apps#design-th...

5.It is recommended that you put what you want to share in the safety cloud server and share it through links.

6.The color of app can be set in the app navigation interface.

Liang
