published report won't refresh

I created a report on BI Desktop and datasource is SharePoint Online. After publishing the report to app.powerbi.com the refresh function won't work. Could I get some help to suggestion to diagnose what went wrong?

Hi @Anonymous ,

1.If your dataset only contains SharePoint on line data source and doesn't contain any on premise data source, then it needn't to use the gateway.

You can manually refresh the dataset by using Refresh now or you can set up a refresh schedule by using Schedule Refresh. Power BI automatically connects to the workbook on OneDrive, or SharePoint Online, about every hour to check for updates. If the workbook has changed, Power BI will refresh the dataset and reports in the Power BI service.

2.If your dataset not only contains SharePoint on line data source but also the on premise data source, then it needs to use the gateway and configure schedule refresh, see more: :On-premises data gateway , Configure scheduled refresh .

Note that you also need to select Allow user's cloud data sources to refresh through this gateway cluster option Under Gateway Cluster Settings. See: Merge or append on-premises and cloud data sources.

Or could you please show us the refresh history information for further analysis?

Best Regards,

Amy

So the refresh icon on the report page does not work.

The Refresh Now icon in Datasets Tab would work and all datasources including the relationship tables are from SharePoint Online.

Does this mean there is no need for Gateway Cluster Settings?

Hi there,

The refresh button on the report page only refreshes the meta data for the report. It DOES NOT refresh the dataset.

In order to refresh the dataset, you have to go into the dataset and then click on Refresh Now

Hi there

Did you configure the data source credentials for your published report?

If not you will have to go into the report settings, then look under Data Source Credentials and put in the required credentials.

Unable to set credentials, the tab is greyed out.

Hi there

Is the datasource connected to a Gateway?

Datasource is not connected to gateway. It is connected to SharePoint online list.

Hi there

Then it should allow you to configure it online?

Wasn't refreshing at all. When refreshing on BI Desktop it would took a good 3-4 minutes but when refreshing BI online it took literally just seconds, doubt if the connection has been cut short somehow.

Same issue here, When I hit refresh button of an online package, looks like the restart is starting, but after 2 seconds it's 'finished'.

Normally this refresh takes about an hour....

Would be great to understand if this is a wider issue....

Seems to be resolved (by itself) now on our side!
