publish to web in combination with wordpress

Hey,

I have to admit, that I'm not that familiar with wordpress, just started blogging some time ago mainly about data visualization using R, but now I would also share my Power BI stuff, but it seems that the generated HTML-code will not work from within my blog, just the link is shown (that works), but not the report.

Any hints how to spread the Power BI word by using wordpress?

Many thanks in advance!

Are you talking about Public Story Telling as announced yesterday?  Here is the embed code working on my blog from my post yesterday  http://exceleratorbi.com.au/power-bi-public-story-telling-is-pure-genius/

If you have problems, try switching from the Visual editor to the Text editor before pasting the iFrame.  This view will show you the HTML code (which is what the iframe is).  You will see your text wrapped in HTML, but you will work out what is going on.

Hey Matt, thanks for your remark. Yes - I'm referring to the "Story Telling" feature.

I'm using the text mode from within Wordpress pasting the generated HTML-Code, this look like this (sorry for providing just links, but it seems I'm also not able to provide some proper screenshots within this frame 😞 (guess, today is one of these days)

in preview mode it looks like this

The fun thing, the link would work as expected, opening my Power BI Report.

Maybe this has something to do with the support of the iframe tags in wordpress as described here

or maybe it's just my theme.

Hi Tom

Did you have any success with this? I'm having the same problem (I think) - namely, on my Wordpress page it will show the link - and when I click on the link, it works. However, it won't show the visual.

If I add a YouTube video, it works fine, so I don't think it's any settings or themes.... but perhaps you have got it working?

Is this an issue about oEmbed providers?- see https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/power-bi-embed-codes?replies=3

Thanks,

Addendum: Having spent much of the weekend learning Wordpress so I can move my site from Weebly, I have now found Publish To Web doesn't work on Wordpress....but does work on Weebly! 🙂 Looks like I'm staying put for now.

Hey belvoir,

yes, it is/was an issue with the

oEmbed providers?- see https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/power-bi-embed-codes?replies=3

Depending on the Wordpress setup, a generic support of iframes is maybe not available, as it was in our case.

This finally made me move to docs.com/minceddata 🙂

Glad you find a solution

Thanks Tom.

I see.  Very strange.  Yes this has to be a wordpress setting I think.  I would ask on a wordpress forum and discuss that an iframe is not rendering (as opposed to discussing that Power BI is not working).  I think that will give you the fastest result.

I have the same problem. I'm using the free hosting provided by Wordpress, maybe it's because of that. I can embed youtube videos and google maps, but not Power BI reports. Perhaps we need the iframe plugin, but that means we need to upgrade to the premium hosting (or to a provider like hostgator?).

Hey,

until now it's ...wordpress.com that does not support iframe(s) per se, just whitelisted sources, e.g. youtube 😞

Due to to the fact that I just started my blogging career I will move blogspot, where the embedding of Power BI works fine, as you can see here minceddata.blogspot.com (this was just a test simple test 🙂 )

Now I will experiment with svg files that contain embedded javascript and then I will make my move.

Tom

Hi Tom,

thanks for the info! Like you, I've just started blogging (today!), because I was excited by the idea of storytelling with (public) data.   Therefore, no problem switching to blogspot 😉

Just looking forward having R in Power Bi.com as well...

Hello @fcivardi @TomMartens @MattAllington

I just found this thread as I had same problems with publishing my PowerBI report to wordpress and actually this website helped me : http://biinsight.com/power-bi-iframe/

The "iframe" code supposed to be pasted into the text editor (as shown on one of the pictures) and then it works fine.

Hope it helps.

Cheers
