premium trial

Hi All,

A customer is building a SaaS multitenant solution and they would like to embed PowerBI to share the dashboard and report with their customers (external users).

They understand how the Power BI Premium model works but they would like to try it before buying, is there any trial offer for Premium?

On the website customer can only get a trial for PowerBI Pro.

They think that for start they will need Premium EM1, do you know if the Power BI Premium nodes can be scaled automatically and in this case move from EM1 to EM2 if they go over 300 page renders?

Thanks,

Tommaso

Currently, there is no Power BI Premium trial. As you said, Power BI premium provide resources dedicated to running the Power BI service for your organization or team, giving you more dependable performance and larger data volumes. You could have a clear underestanding of Power BI premium before speak to your IT Admin to purchase it. Please refer to the link below to see the details.

Hi Tommaso -

If your customer is an ISV that is looking to embed Power BI into their own solution, then the new capacity-based Power BI Embedded offering is the right choice for the them. This article does a great job of describing the difference between the SKUs. The capacity-based Power BI Embedded offering is designated as the A* SKU (as opposed to P* and EM* SKUs) and can be purchased in Azure. The A1 SKU is the Embedded equivalent of EM1. Note that the A* SKUs are billed by the hour. As a result, they're a great way to try out Power BI Embedded in a cost-effective fashion, especially when paired with your free Azure credit.

If your customer would still like to go with Power BI Premium: notice that in the Office 365 admin portal, you may purchase both EM3 and P1 SKUs on a monthly basis, without the need for an annual commitment. With our new v-core pooling functionality, you can then use the v-cores obtained from said purchase to set up multiple EM1 and EM2 capacities to further test performance characteristics. For example, if you purchase the P1 month-to-month SKU for a month, you'll get 8 v-cores during that month, which you can configure as 1 P1, 2 EM3s, 4 EM4s, etc. Notice that you can switch between those configurations during that month at no cost.

Separately, you can also reach out to your Microsoft account team to discuss other evaluation options - they have a number of tools at their disposal to help with evaluation. If you're not yet working with an account team, you may fill out this form and we'll reach out.

Marking this as solved is pretty rough...

The ability to administrate the Power BI Premium service and regulate activity is very poor.  I cannot see which data sets could be causing the most issues, and I cannot tell which users are scheduling refreshes the most often.  The only option I have to mitigate the experience is to DOUBLE capacity, either by going to the P2 node, or getting a second P1 node.  Again, no way to be sure for sure on what I should do or should not do.

At this point, pretty disappointed in a $60k decision our company made.  I have this gas gauge which appears gives all of these detailed statistics on usage...dashboard.png

I added an idea to vote, to get a trial of Premium.

https://ideas.powerbi.com/forums/265200-power-bi-ideas/suggestions/31430155-trial-test-for-power-bi-...

There should be a trial test for Power BI Premium. At least limited to only one workgroup, and only 1GB per dataset as it is for Power BI PRO. This way we can test its capacity and way to interact with Power BI Service and SQL Reporting Services (SSRS).

Hi,

What is wrong with providing a trial period for Power BI EM1? This way we can say whether it works or not, before paying a full year of subscription.

Trials are really common. We really need this!
