power bi vs power bi report server

I am new to power bi and i am so confused.

which one i should use for my dashboard power BI or Power BI report server?

my work is to build a dashboard, schedule auto refreh and email the dashboard to users with screenshot. All users should click link on email and view the report.

For my work i am using power bi desktop to build dashboard. i published on report server and scheduled refresh execl files but i can;t send emails to user.

i tried published to power bi. ( i am using trial version) i am not able to set the scheduled refresh. i am able to send email subscriptions but the user can;t view the report since he didn;t signup for power bi.

Please help me which one i should use for my work.

Hi @sanjay009 ,

the Power BI Desktop Client you use to build reports (not dashboards ;)).

The Power BI Service is the place where you can publish report, share them and create dashboards.

The Power BI Report Server is also the place where you can publish reports and share them (on premises).

If you like to set up the EMail configuration for the Reports Server this link will help: https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Report-Server/Email-subscription-on-Power-BI-Reporting-Server/td-p/...

Best,

Kathrin

Power BI Report Server and the Power BI service have many similarities and some key differences. Please refer to: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/report-server/compare-report-server-service

In your case, you could use Power Bi Desktop to build reports and upload the model to Power BI Serivice. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/fundamentals/service-service-vs-desktop

And for schedule refresh, you need to set up a gateway first. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/connect-data/service-gateway-onprem
