power bi paginated report builder - how to clear undo redo change history <- alternative title
Lol looks like yet another bug with Report Builder where change history adds accumulatively to the source file size.
Image: yes. add an image, save, remove the image, save, add the image or another image, save. file size just keeps growing.
Subreport: no
Map: no
Note closing and reopening Report Builder has no effect.

power bi paginated report builder change history saved, source file blowout with image
Reproducable Tests:
Image
> create a blank report = 4k size source file
> add an 90k image, source file now 125k
> remove the image, save, close RB, slight drop to 124k source file size (but not 90k as expected)
> add an 90k image, source file now 246k
> remove the image, save, close RB, 245k
> add an 90k image, source file now 366k
> remove the image, save, close RB, 366k
etc you get the idea.
Subreport
> create a blank report = 4k size source file
> add link to 13k subreport, slight increase from 4030 to 4470 bytes
> remove the subreport link, save, close RB, 4033 bytes
> add link to 13k subreport, slight increase from 4033 to 4468 bytes
> remove the subreport link, save, close RB, 4032 bytes
>> garbage collection working here
Map
> create a blank report = 4k size source file
> add a map, save, close RB 13k size source file
> remove map, save, close RB, 4038 bytes
>> garbage collection working here
Solved! Go to Solution.
The real bug is the fact that yes removing an image from the layout does not remove the image from the report.
One also has to remove the image from the Images list. And visa versa, removing the image from the Images list does not remove the image placeholder from the layout.

'Embedding an image ensures that the image is always available to a report, but can affect the size of the report definition, the file that defines the report.'
Looks like the default of Embedded is not the way to go. Choose External or Database if using a database.

5. In Select the image source, click the option that specifies where the source for the image exists.
Even changing an existing image to another image within the image placeholder adds to the bloat. So no work arounds yet.
