power bi dataflow direct query

Hi,

Has anyone been able to connect to Power BI Dataflow (not linked to org datalake) using direct query?

I see that this feature was released as part of May update but did the release flow into UK South region yet?

enhanced compute engine is enabled on premium capacity already but i dont see the option to connect live.

Hi @RakeshSinghr ,

From the Microsoft official document What's new and planned for Power BI, we know the Dataflow DirectQuery feature in Preview stage.

You may pay attention to the power bi announcement. The new feature will be announced once released.

Not sure if you paid attention to what i asked because your response was quite generic ( and condescending to an extent)

If you look at your snapshot closely, preview was scheduled to be released in Apr 2020 and hence the reason for this thread in the first place.

Have you noticed the annoucement about direct query was made in https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/power-bi-desktop-may-2020-feature-summary/ - more than a week ago and its still not available?

Do you know if this preview feature has been released at all? - Yes/No

If yes, has it been released in UK South region - Yes/No

Does this feature apply to Power BI Dataflow - Yes/No

@RakeshSinghrI think you are referring to the capacity level setting (which we have set to "On" under dataflows)? I'm talking about (a presumably new) individual dataflow level setting (where you set the state of the enhanced compute engine at indiviudal dataflow level).

@v-xicaiWe know it's in preview and it's been announced as being available to use in the May release of Power BI Desktop - https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/power-bi-desktop-may-2020-feature-summary/#_DQ_Dataflows - we're trying to establish how you can actually use it?

@PaulKn - No, i dont see that option on dataflow unfortunately.

@RakeshSinghr  I was just about to post the same! According to Windows Store I had a new version of PBI Desktop installed yesterday so I'm not sure if they've released a bug fix in that (I was definitely on the May version before) or they've done something on the service side.

Confusingly the version in PBI Desktop itself is still showing as 2.81.5381.821.

@PaulKn i dont think its desktop version, see todays announcement - https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/power-bi-dataflows-direct-query-support/

Also the screen you were looking for a dataflow is to be released soon..

I haven't been able to figure out how to get this to work yet either (North Europe region / May 2020 Power BI Desktop).

This page suggests there should be an option to enable the enhanced compute engine at dataflow level as well as capacity level but I can't find it? https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/transform-model/service-dataflows-directquery#enable-direc...

Its on Admin portal -> capacity settings - > workloads

I must say, details on this feature from Microsoft is quite poor.

Having gone through MBAS build video, i'm thinking if this feature is available only for Power Platform Dataflow and not power Bi Dataflow - can someone from MSFT clarify please?

If thats not the case, a timeline per region would really help.
