on-premise power bi intermittence

I have the gateway configured for the daily update. but currently the connection is intermittent, constantly updates are disabled by the following error.

error on-premise.png

The gateway is installed on a server which never shuts down and keeps on-premise session open.

The server is also configured to browse the domain names suggested on the page https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/service-gateway-onprem

thanks for your help

Re: on-premise power bi intermittence

Hi @charlyrosero,

I'd like some detail content to clarify your scenario.(e.g. refresh history, gateway log, datasource type, connection mode, data source credentials setting, proxy settings...)

Tools for troubleshooting

Collecting logs from the gateway configurator

There are several logs you can collect for the gateway, and you should always start with the logs. The simplest way to collect logs after installing the gateway is through the user interface. In the On-premises data gateway user interface, select Diagnostics and then select the Export logs link near the bottom of the page, as shown in the following image.

On-prem-data-gateway-UI-logs

Installer logs

Copy
%localappdata%\Temp\On-premises_data_gateway_*.log

Configuration logs

Copy
%localappdata%\Microsoft\On-premises Data Gateway\GatewayConfigurator*.log

On-premises data gateway service logs

Copy
C:\Users\PBIEgwService\AppData\Local\Microsoft\On-premises Data Gateway\Gateway*.log

Event Logs

The On-premises data gateway service event logs are present under Application and Services Logs.

On-prem-data-gateway-event-logs

Fiddler Trace

Fiddler is a free tool from Telerik that monitors HTTP traffic. You can see the back and forth with the Power BI service from the client machine. This may show errors and other related information.

Refresh History

When using the gateway for scheduled refresh, Refresh History can help you see what errors have occurred, as well as provide useful data if you should need to create a support request. You can view both scheduled, as well as on demand, refreshes. Here is how you can get to the Refresh History.

  1. In the Power BI navigation pane, in Datasets, select a dataset > Open Menu > Schedule Refresh.

  2. In Settings for... > Schedule Refresh, select Refresh History.

BTW, did you update gateway to newest version?

Xiaoxin Sheng

Re: on-premise power bi intermittence

Hi @charlyrosero

Update the gateway to the current version and reconfigure the datasource.

This would resolve the issue. You can provide more information on the status once you have installed a new gateway.

Re: on-premise power bi intermittence

Hi

thank you for your answers.

the gateway version is 14.16.6745.2 (June 2018)

the only error that I could detect is the highlight in red. I have attached the last log that I exported. if you can help me detecting any other error I would appreciate it!

Re: on-premise power bi intermittence

Hi @charlyrosero,

It seems like gateway request cannot reached to power bi service, which type of datasource your used? Connection mode?

In addition, I'd like to suggest you take a look at support page if your scenario is similar as listed known issues
