edit dataset

Hi everyone, 

 

In Power Bi service, i am memeber (owner ), once i connect the dataset by desktop, I cannot edit anything, just I can make the reports, 

can any one tell me why i cannot edit as I am owner ?

Well, if you connected to a dataset that is already in the service then this is a Live connection and you cannot edit the original dataset, regardless of whether you are the owner. You would have to download the PBIX from the Service that would include the dataset, make the edits and then publish.

 

It's just the rules. You can only do the data modeling in Power BI Desktop and only with imported data. You cannot edit Live or Direct Query data connections beccause you should be doing that in the source.

Thanks Greg, 

but I can see my name in Service as member(owner), is that meaning I am owner?? if so, I should be able to edit them.  there is no point to download it as it may have more updated colums in dataset moving forward and I cannot use them unless download them again and start at first. 

what is the best way ??
