Hi,
We are connecting to Analysis Services (SSAS Cube) from Power BI desktop using msmdpump.dll. We are using this approach because end users are external to the server where the cube is hosted. We could successfully connect to the SSAS cube from Power BI Desktop in import mode but when try to publsih these report to the service, obvously it is looking for a gateway
1. Could you please guide on how to configure msmdpump.dll as a Analysis Services datasource on an existing gateway?
2. When we try to configure msmdpump.dll in the same approach as we do for a normal Analysis Services cube, we get an error
Unable to connect: We encountered an error while trying to connect to . Details: "We could not register this data source for any gateway instances within this cluster. Please find more details below about specific errors for each gateway instance.
Status Code: 400, Error Code: DMTS_PublishDatasourceToClusterErrorCode, Error: Invalid connection credentials.
Could you please help?
Also, would like to know if there is a possibility of connecting from Power BI desktop to a dataset in the Power BI service via the gateway? When I try do this from Power BI desktop it tries to connect to the datasource locally and not via the gateway.
Please help.
Hi @sriram979,
Currently it is not possible yet. There is an idea about that you can vote it up. Or use the live connection to work on it, so that the gateway is not required then.

Frank
Hi @sriram979,
Does that make sense? If so, kindly mark my answer as the solution to close the case please. Thanks in advance.
