Your opinion about possible multi tenant solution

We make (standard) software which is installed on-premises at our customers. Data of our applications is also stored on-premises at the customers location. Now we want to use Power BI as our dashboard solution.

Power BI Premium with the Power BI Report server is to expensive for our customer so we are looking for another solution. Now we have the following solution in mind:

- with a (our) company Power BI Pro account we create (App) Workspaces for each customer

- we install on-premises data gateway at every customer which is registered with our company Power BI Pro account so the will appear in our company Power BI Pro account

- a (standard) dashboard will be deployed in every (App) Workspace (so for each customer) where the dataset connection is changed to the correct data gateway

- every dashboard user of a customer get's a Power BI Pro license so then can view the dashboard

Is this a possible solution? Are the limitations for the number of (App) workspaces or for the number of installed data gateways?

Thanks for your response.

Hi @Marang,

As far as I know, there are no limitations of the number of App workspace and the number of data gateway. It's possible. There are something you should consider. (And something I don't recall for now).

1. The security issues. (Not from Power BI) It's a big challenge to manage many data sources and many Desktop files.

2. All the customers seem from a single company. They would have similar account.

3. The performance.

Best Regards,

Dale

Hi @v-jiascu-msft or any other experts who have knowledge on this topic (supplying Power BI Pro to multiple customers).  If the above solution is not ideal, what would you suggest for a solution like this where there is an intermediate company which builds and supports the BI reporting for many customers?

Would it be better to sign each customer up individually to separate Power BI Pro environments with their own Active Directories?  How would the managing company access and maintain these environments?

Any other suggestions?

Cheers
