XMLA Endpoint in Power BI Service

Hi,

I don't know if this is possible but couldn't find exact answer :

1. I have a pbix file "MasterDataset", pulling data from SQL DW

2. Published the dataset to a workspace under power bi premium

3. Created another pbix "analytics", with datasource from #2 using XMLA Endpoint. connection is using Analysis Services.

4. Published the pbix "analytics" to same workspace. Will this work? I am getting an error "Couldn't load the model schema associated with this report."

Thanks. Appreciate your help with this.

Hi @deepu299 ,

If your dataset of  the pbix "analytics" contains on premise data source, then it needs to use the gateway , and you can use demand refresh or configure schedule refresh to get updated data, see more: :On-premises data gateway , Configure scheduled refresh

In addition, you need to set Map user name in Manage gateway for the SSAS datasource, replace your Power BI account with the your local gateway installed computer domain_name\user_name. For reference: Map user names for Analysis Services data sources.

You may resolve the issue via the troubleshooting link: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/service-gateway-onprem-tshoot#data-sources .

Best Regards,

Amy

Seems like that should work but perhaps try a Power BI Live connection?

@Greg_Deckler  Thanks Greg. It is a live connection and it is working fine when not published in the service. Once published to the service, it is not understanding the database.

Hi   @deepu299 ,

Does that make sense? If so, kindly mark the proper reply as a solution to help others having the similar issue and close the case. If not, let me know and I'll try to help you further.

Best regards

Amy

@v-xicai I don't find it anywhere relevant to my question. Excuse me if my question is not clear, there is no question of Gateway or AS, I am asking about using PBIX as a model, connecting using XMLA end point in Power BI service. Can't explain any better, I will check with client partner.
