Hello, I work in the information security team and our organization has recently purchased PowerBI licenses. I would like to ask members here that who is typically assigned the admin role for workspaces in their organization? Is it the Business Intelligence/Data Analytics team managing permissions for workspaces or the security/access management team?
Reading about the admin role on Microsoft documentation, I feel like this role should be assigned to BI/Data Analytics team. Can somebody please share their experience?
Solved! Go to Solution.
I would say it's content creators, BI Analyst/BI Developer, responsibility. They are well aware of what content exist in a workspace and whom to share the content with. And rest of all can be given member role unless you want them to have few of the admin capabilities.
Check the below doc for better understanding of the responsibilities of an admin.

Hi @rameezali ,
Yeah I agree to @_sfrost 's insight. I prefer to give the permission to the security/access management team if your content in the workspace is very private and important, and the members who access the workspace need to be strictly controlled and monitored. If not, Business Intelligence/Data Analytics team might be better. They will have a better understanding of the content and permissions of the workspace, which is more conducive to data analysis and sharing.
Hope that's what you were looking for.
Best Regards,
Yuna

Thanks Yuna. The admin role allows you to modify/delete workspaces and edit workspace details, in addition to what a user with a member role can do. If I take the sensitivity of the content in consideration, there is not much difference in terms of accessing this sensitive information when it comes to both admin and member roles.
Hi @rameezali ,
Yes, I also agree with you.😊
