A big problem with power bi data refreshes is when a dataset refresh happens and no data is being returned and no error is shown or no notification is being sent to the data owner. This is a huge flaw in the system. As when my manager goes on power bi to check the reports and sees empty reports for her there is an error with the system. I keep getting feedback that power bi is not as good as microsoft excel due to this issue.

If you've configured alternative email address, please check the alternative email inbox.
If you still cannot find any failure notification email for you dataset refresh in email box (including spam/junk folders), I suggest you to create a support ticket at http://support.powerbi.com (see bottom of page).
If issue is resolved, you can share the solution here later to help others who have the same problem.
Or try to use API to set refresh failure notification email address.

Is it caused by the refresh failure? If you want to be notified, you can add an email address when setting the refresh schedule in order to receive notifications.

For some reason when no data is returned there is no data failure notification sent to me in my email, also I have this setting turned on. Not sure why this is haopening.
