What if parameter not updatable in service

Hi,

I published a Power BI Desktop report with 5 What-If parameters to the Power BI Service, and once I open it in app.powerbi.com, I find that I cannot update the parameters, unless I first clear the selection on the parameter slicer. Is there a reason behind this? Is there something I can change so that I don't have to clear the selection, and can directly update the values of the parameters?

Thank you so much for your help,

Caroline

Hi @Anonymous,

You need to hit the "Enter" button or click other areas after entering new values. Please give it a try.

Hi,

Unfortunately it does not work either when I hit the "Enter" button or click other areas after entering new values.

I wanted to send an update - I am wondering if my issue is related to this error that I get in the corresponding dataset (see below):

I published the Power BI report to the Service under a new name, and this time there is no error in the corresponding dataset, and I am able to update the What-If Parameters (even though the two reports are identical). Does someone know if the error in the dataset could lead to the issue in updating the parameters and if so, in what way?

Thanks a lot!

Hi @Anonymous,

I'm afraid we can't find out what happened from your snapshot. There is only a warning symbol. Can you provide the details after clicking that mark?

Dale

Hi @v-jiascu-msft,

Here is the error message I get when I click on the warning symbol:

Hi @Anonymous,

I find something in the database. Please check if you made any changes in the source or somewhere else. The details are as follows.

>>>This error often happens after the Entity was renamed or deleted. Please update the query/visual to use the new name or undo the name change. - Source: 'User'

Hi @v-jiascu-msft,

No there were no changes in the source.

Hi @Anonymous,

That's all I can find. If you'd like to investigate more, I would suggest you file a support ticket here. I'm glad it works now.

Best Regards,
Dale

Hi @v-jiascu-msft,

Thank you so much for looking into this!

I noticed that if I use the button Reset to default, then I am able to update the parameters:

Hi there

When you use the What-If parameters did you use a drop down or slicer to change the values?

It appears in your screenshot above that those appear to be input fields?

The What-If parameters are in a slicer for the user to change the values.
