Warning message when trying to delete report - this report is part of a content pack

Hello.

I have to delete a duplicate report from Power BI Service. But when I try to I get the following message:

content-pack-error.png

I have tried to go to "View Content Packs" from the top menu, but there is nothing there, at least not shared with me.

I there any way that I can identify the content pack PBI is warning me about? And if I click on delete, it will only delete the content pack, but not the original (other) reports from Power BI Service, right?

Thank you!

Hi @Anonymous ,

I did a test. When I click to delete a report after importing the content of the content pack in the classic workspace, the warning you mentioned earlier will appear. When I click the delete button, all the contents of the content pack containing the report in the workspace will be deleted, but the original content will not be affected, and the content pack still exists. You can reimport the content. I suggest that you can publish the APP (Please refer to this link. )or re-create a content pack that does not contain duplicate reports and import it into your workspace.

The "View content packs" option you use is to check whether you have created a content pack with the contents of this workspace.

Hope that's what you were looking for.

Best Regards,

Yuna

@v-yuaj-msft @nickyvv thank you for your answers.

The report is published in another workspace (not My Workspace). I managed to identify the content pack. Looks like I had to be on another workspace (not the one with the report) and then click on Settings -> View Content Packs. I had to be on the workspace that has the data source for this report.

Thank you!

Hi @Anonymous,

I'm guessing the report is in your own workspace (so My Workspace), is that correct?

That means you probably copied it from the content pack that was installed by someone else, as explained here

In either way, you can get the content back from Appsource after deleting it. Just be aware that any modifications you made will be gone. But if you want to get rid of the report, you can safely delete it.

And a side-note: content packs are being deprecated, so you'll probably want to move to Apps, you can read about that in the above link also.
