Using both Power BI Pro & Premium License under the same tenant

Hi,

Is it possible to have some users on Pro licenses and others on premium licenses? The reason I ask is because some users will need the ability to subscribe to a report with "full report attachments" and others won't need this feature.

Does this also mean any premium workspaces/apps created cannot be accessed by pro licenses users?

Thanks in advance.

Hi @Anonymous

Yes it's quite possible to have a mix of different licence types in one Power BI Tenant. You need to be aware of the different facilities and particularly the difference between "Premium Per User"(PPU)  and full "Premium Capacity".

If you're talking about PPU licences they are individual licences and you're right that PPU workspaces/apps created cannot be accessed by pro licenses users. This table may help.

License typeCapabilities when workspace is in shared capacityAdditional capabilities when workspace is in Premium capacity
Power BI (free)Access to content in My WorkspaceConsume content shared with them
Power BI ProPublish content to other workspaces, share dashboards, subscribe to dashboards and reports, share with users who have a Pro licenseDistribute content to users who have free licenses
Power BI Premium Per UserPublish content to other workspaces, share dashboards, subscribe to dashboards and reports, share with users who have a Premium Per User licenseDistribute content to users who have free and Pro licenses

see Power BI service features by license type - Power BI | Microsoft Docs for full details.

Hope this helps
