Users with Contributor or Viewer permission receive "Cannot load model" error

Hello.

In a Premium Capacity workspace I have a report and related data set that are uploaded from Power BI desktop.  Users with Member and Admin permission can view the report.

Users with Viewer and Contributor access receive the following error.

They can see the framework of the report but not the data content.

Can Viewers not see reports that have related datasets that have been created in Power BI Desktop?

Is there a setting I'm missing?

Cannot load model

Couldn't load the model schema associated with this report. Make sure you have a connection to the server, and try again.

Please check the technical details for more information. If you contact support, please provide these details.

  • Underlying ErrorUser is trying to access model with Id='XXXXXXX' which has cloud RLS enabled, but they have no roles associated with them.

Hi @Anonymous

From the error it would appear that the dataset has RLS configured.

In order for the viewers and contributors to view the dataset, they should also be added to the Role under Security on the dataset?

@GilbertQ Thank you for the quick feedback!  This was the solution.  The previous version of the report did not have Modeling / RLS.  Therefore I thought it was strictly an issue with the access change I made.  However, I went in to double check the new version of the report and it indeed had Modeling / RLS.

Appreciate the help.

Hi @Anonymous

Happy to help and get the issue fixed!
