Update field names in Service

I'd really like to know if there's a smart way to update column names in the service, once they are already being used in reports/dashboards.

So for example, I'd like to remove an underscore from a column name and put it in proper case, without this happening to all my pre-existing reports:

I find it hard to believe that there isn't some way of using DAX Studio or the Power BI API in order to automate this somehow, but I cannot find any reference for doing so. Does anyone have any guidance?

Thanks

Hi there

As far as I know currently the only way to fix this is to update the reports after you have made changes to the field names.

It is a bit of a hack, but I do not know of any other workaround at the moment.

Thanks Gilbert, I suspected that might be the case.  It's pretty disappointing if so.

Yeah I guess it comes down to planning and making sure that the initial column names you use are consistent with the business requirements.

Planning ahead is all well and good, but the reality is that these things are definitely subject to changing business requirements.

To name one counter-example - Tableau does not have many of Power BI's more sophisticated features, but it at least allows you to make changes to dimension/measure names, and to propogate these changes across all workbooks that use the dataset, without a problem.
