Unnamed users signify in power bi usage metrics

What does Unnamed users signify in power bi usage metric of a report? When does Power BI logs such usage?

Hi @Check2404,

Based on my research, the Unnamed user is generated form below option:

1.PNG

You coud open it and it will not show the unamed user.

And with below link, you could refer to how the data recorded:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/service-usage-metrics#considerations-and-limitations

I also suggest you monitor the record in audit logs to see more details.

Hi there

If this is the usage metrics from the Power BI Service, this could possibly due to Ad Blockers.

The reason is that as far as I understand the usage metrics in the Power BI Service rely on the browser sending through the required information. If there is an ad blocker or something else, this could potentially affect the metrics.

It is recommended from Microsoft to use the Office 365 Audit logs if you want a 100% usage reporting.

Unfortunately, we see there is high number of users falling under "Unnamed Users" bucket on the report . Does this mean that all such users have some browser setting issue that is leading to this? Would like to know the setting details and how this can be avoided to get appropriate usage?

Hi there

What I would suggest doing is to get the usage stats from the Office 365 Audit log, those would be 100% accurate.

In terms of the browser settings, it would depend on the browser, their settings and any add-ons installed.

Thanks for the additional info. I assume that audit log is enabled by default and would help to check usage statistics of power BI report. When does such logging really happen? Only through ad blockers at user end? Do you have any reference URL to state the fact that this is an expected behavior in Power BI? This would be helpful. Thanks once again in providing all the clarifications.
