Unable to load model - composite model

Hi there!

I created one dashboard for every salesman in my company through a composite model dataset; with my "golden dataset" (I had developed several dashboards that have a live connexion to it, and shared them internally without any issue) + a web connexion to an excel of one of the salesmen that is on his onedrive.

The architecture that is made is this:

Golden dataset > Composite dataset of salesman1> Composite dashboard of salesman1

My golden dataset is on a gateway that enables it to refresh without me being connected.

The parameters panel indicates that I do not need to create a gateway for those datasets as it is all in the cloud.

I have published the dashboards to my workspace, and then shared a read and share access to the dashboards to internal colleagues, they can't see any visual. The visuals have the message error "unable to load model".

To solve this I have:

1- upgraded the access to a "create content" ; no change

2 - published in a specific workspace and given an admin access to the workspace: no change

3- deleted the excel file as it was shared with me but not with other colleagues; no change.

The pbi then becomes a directquery model that is linked to my golden dataset through: AnalysisServices{"server":"powerbi://api.powerbi.com/v1.0/myorg/ ...

4-I tried to create a gateway for the analysis server, but it says that my identification doesn't work

5- i checked whether I could share a file that is a directquery ; it works

5- I shared the access to the Golden dataset file in my onedrive; doesn't fix the problem

6-I tried to delete the model in the desktop version to then choose a live connexion to my golden dataset ; it doesn't work, once it loads the golden dataset, it tells me I need first to apply or dismiss the previous modifications (the deletion of the model), and when I try "apply", it says there is not data (obviously...) and when I say "dismiss", it doesn't load the new connexion source.

A colleague showed me his own service page; he can see the tables and columns names in the report, but when he tries to create a visual from the data, the same error message "unable to load model" appears.

7- i tried to create a support request as I am a pro user, but it doesn't seem to be working. It seemed to be sent the first time, but the chat loaded an empty form beneath the greyed form I sent, and I didn't received any email confirming my request. Then when I tried to send a new request, the field "issue severity" doesn't show the options, so I cannot choose any (contrarily to the 1st time) and thus the form is not being sent.

So, I have 3 questions:

>how can I fix this error message?

>if it doesn't get to be fixed; how can I switch those reports to a live connexion in import mode to my golden dataset? At least I could try to see if it fixes my problem and possibly publish them all like that, except for the one for the salesman who needs his own excel file.

> if it's not possible to switch my reports; how can I easily recreate a report based on an existing one? it seems I cannot copy/paste visuals from one report to another

Thanks!

Hi Gallen,

RLS is not active on my reports (still haven't figured how and why using it).

I've read also that users need to have access to the base dataset:

https://www.sqlbi.com/blog/marco/2021/06/03/setting-the-right-permissions-for-users-of-composite-mod...

which i've tried yesterday, with republishing the reports, but it doesn't change anything.

Hi  @heloise ,

When this happens, you can try to republish the dataset and report to the workspace.

If RLS is active on this report the users might not be configured properly. Users with Viewer Access won't be able to access the report till they are added to a role.

Best Regards,
Gallen Luo
