Unable to get data from VSO (Visual Studio Online)

I have problems connecting to our organisations VSO (Visual Studio Online) site.

There is a service for VSO that is available in the web app (https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/powerbi-content-pack-visual-studio/).

I am able to connect to it however it takes a huge amount of times (+5 min) to load the data and I still end up with empty datasets/reports.

In general, why are some services available for the web app online?

why are we limited to use the odata connection in the Power Bi desktop app for project online, VSO etc.?

I have then tried to connect via odata from the desktop app but it does not work at all (I have allowed by account to connect from the VSO site).

I have tried to use different URL:s without beeing able to connect.

Following this post I was able to connect but neither preview or load the data (http://community.powerbi.com/t5/Integrations-with-Files-and/Unable-to-import-data-from-Visual-Studio...)

I got this error message

DataSource.Error: OData: Request failed: The remote server returned an error: (500) Internal Server Error. (The Analytics Service is in preview and only available to select customers of Visual Studio Team Services at this time. If your account has been enabled please contact the Microsoft employee who set up the service for assistance. (error code 1))
Details:
DataSourceKind=OData

Another rror messages I keep getting is this one: http://community.powerbi.com/t5/Integrations-with-Files-and/Unable-to-import-data-from-Visual-Studio...

Can anyone help me out here?

I would prefer to use the desktop app but if that does not work as of today, the web app is fine
