Third-party tools to explore Power BI data (Excel alternative)

Are there any other tools that connect to a Power BI Dataset for data viz / exploration?

I've looked for tools that use the XMLA Endpoint but I can only find dev tools like, tabular editor, dax studio and so on.

I think Tableau can connect to SSAS. But, more specifically, I'm looking for an alternative to Excel as a data exploration tool, as when using the "Analyze in Excel" option, but in a scenario where the person do not have a MS Office license.

Hi, @msarmento

At present, there is really no good tool to connect to powerbi dateset, except for its own desktop. Because powerbi has a complete system, it is difficult to have third-party tools.

Hi @msarmento

I am not sure of any other tools that are free that allow you to connect to explore Power BI data. I would suggest them using Excel or wait for the Excel online version to be supported in the browser?

I'm looking for an option exactly for those Power BI users that don't have an Excel license.

I would imagine that, since Power BI has an open XMLA endpoint to connect to, there will be some tool to connect to a dataset and explore it's data. Even if it's not free.
