Strange problem with map visual

Hi all,

I have a map visual in a larger report, which is not displaying data correctly for some users. When one of these users is logged in, the data for some countries seems to be missing, and nothing is displayed on the visual for that country. For example, the map is fed data related to sales per country, and when I login to the service to view the visual as one of these affected users, with Edge in InPrivate mode, I can see the data correctly represented for all countries, but no matter what I try, for these users, nothing will cause the "missing" data to appear. Any idea what could be causing that?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Yes, it is a really strange behavior. I would suggest to open a Support ticket with Microsoft Support. Probably they will be able to help or at least have a full diagnosis.

Best regards,

Isaac

Hi @gkotfs,

There may be several reasons why the data is not appearing correctly for some users in the map visual. Here are some potential causes and solutions to consider:

  1. Permissions: Check if the affected users have the necessary permissions to view the data. In Power BI, you can set permissions at the report level or dataset level. Make sure that the affected users have the appropriate permissions to view the data.

  2. Filters: Verify that there are no filters applied to the map visual that are causing the data to be hidden. Filters can be set at the page, report, or visual level, and they can be specific to individual users or groups. Check if any filters are applied that might be hiding the data.

  3. Data Quality: Ensure that the data being fed into the map visual is accurate and complete. Verify if the data is missing for those specific users or if it's missing from the underlying data source itself.

  4. Browser or Network Issues: The issue might be caused by the user's browser or network. Have the affected users try accessing the map visual from a different browser or network and see if the issue persists.

  5. Power BI Service Issues: It's possible that the issue is caused by a bug or outage in the Power BI Service. Check if there are any known issues or outages on the Power BI Service Status page.

Hopefully, one of these solutions will help you identify and resolve the issue. But if it does not, at least you will have had tried most of what Power BI Support might ask you to do.

Hi Isaac,

Thanks for the reply. Just to note:

1: To the best of my knowledge, it can't be permissions as, when I login as the same user, on my laptop, I can see all the data presented correctly.

2: Filters are confirmed the same between the affected users and myself.

3: It can't be data quality for the same reason as 1 above.

4: Unlikely to be network issues as we're usually on the same LAN. The affected users have also tried multiple browsers, and there's no change to the display problem for them.

5: Can't be Power BI service issues as it works fine for me and most other users.

I'm stumped!

Regards,
