Standard Gateway is not selectable

I Build a report using composite model. After I publish from Desktop, I tried to set up the gateway for two dataset, one is a import table from local source, one is the direct query from Pbi Dataset. The former one is ok, but the later one encounter problem.

My question is, if the Pbi dataset is already connected to local source via personal gateway, in theory, when I connect to that dateset from PowerBi again, it is cloud to cloud. It shouldn't require gateway again. But anyway, if i add to gateway and enter my powerbi username and password, it will has the following error message.

"We could not register this data source for any gateway instances within this cluster. Please find more details below about specific errors for each gateway instance."

Is there any special with pbi dataset gateway

Hi @gavin007 ,

Personal gateway does not support DirectQuery. So, your mixed query include the direct query table and personal gateway doesn't support direct query connection mode. You can refer to this article.

For the data source analysis service, the information that you enter for Username and Password is used by the gateway to connect to the Analysis Services instance.

The Windows account you enter must be a member of the Server Administrator role on the Analysis Services instance you're connecting to. If this account’s password is set to expire, users could get a connection error if the password isn’t updated for the data source.

you have enable the update from cloud source option in the gateway main settings? for a PBI dataset you only need to gateway to be able to connect to internet and enable the use the cloud refresh option from the gateway.

That is why you see "optional" in the screenshot.

I enable that in the gatway setting in Power Service. but it sill doesn't work.
