Specify roles for SSAS directquery

Hello,

I need to specify Roles property on SSAS on prem ConnectionString in directquery mode.

The account I used must be part of Admin Role, so that I want to specify a different role for Query.

I can't find any U.I. settings for this neither in Desktop not in Gateway DataSource. I tried uncompressing the pbix, but using this setting seems to corrupt the pbix for PowerBI Desktop.

Any Idea would be welcome...

Hi @rw72000Soft ,

In Power BI, when connecting SSAS tabular data source in DIRECT QUERY mode, it will directly take the role security defined within Tabular model. We can't "Manage Roles" for Tabular source in Power BI Desktop. To edit roles and corresponding row filters, you have to do it in either SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT) or SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS). Please refer to tutorial below:

Tutorial: Dynamic row level security with Analysis services tabular model

Thank you for your answer, but you didn't exactly understand my pb :

I've a 2 roles defined for my user in SSAS : one is admin, the other has RLS.

It's mandatory, because it is used to pass effectiveIdentity in some case and customdata in other case.

With powerBI Embedded, I can pass a user AND a role to endorse when querying SSAS from my Web app, but from PowerBI Service, the role (SSAS role) is not a parameter of the gateway DataSource.

Moreover, I can't specify Role in SSAS connection string without corrupting PowerBI report whereas it's a recognized property.

How can I achieve it ?
