Should we move region or not?

Hi all, I'm new here in the community so let me know if I am posting in the wrong place etc.

I'm helping a client who use the Power BI service in Azure. They have a number of Power BI workspaces and datasets.

Initially they created the Power BI environment in region North Europe. But now all of their resources (storage accounts, SQL databases) etc have been moved to West Europe.

I know it is possible to move Power BI between regions with assistance from Microsoft support

Before we do this I want to understand if there is any way we can see if it is worthwhile moving region?

Moving from US to Europe... yes, then it is obvious. But will we see any major benefit from moving between North and Western Europe?

How can wee see how much traffic is flowing ? Costs?

Any advice here are much appreciated!

Kind regards,
Joakim

Hey,

The below blog helps w.r.t cost aspects :

https://medium.com/microsoftazure/azure-platform-egress-charges-e1755129b5dc

https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/pricing/details/bandwidth/

But the cost changes should be minimal and you should be more worried w.r.t performance aspects as the source data has to now move from West Europe to North Europe and those being regional pairs that too would be minimal but  the refresh performance would be significant as compared to Cost

Tnanks  @NandanHegde , we were thinking along the same lines. Keeping data and users in the same region makes more sense. And refresh times are quite long.

Thanks for the links.

Ideally keeping the data and users within the same region is the best approach for cost and performance.

Glad I could be of help!!! 🙂

Can you please accept it as answer in case if it helped you as it might benefit other community members as well.
