Sharing with third party requires GitHub?

An external customer wants access to a Power BI dashboard.  We have Pro.  I did a test by using the Share button with the dashboard and entering my gmail address but when I click on the received link it asks me to sign into GitHub and I don't understand why, and the customer will definitely not understand it.  Did I miss something?

Hi  @albran

Sharing with third party doesn't require GitHub.

I think your issue is caused by your gmail address.

For refrenece: Share Power BI dashboards and reports with coworkers and others

With sharing, whether you share content inside or outside your organization, you need a Power BI Pro license. Your recipients also need Power BI Pro licenses, unless the content is in a Premium capacity.

So the mail address you enter should be an account of Power BI Service.

For reference: Supported email addresses

 sign-up for Power BI:

  • Power BI requires that you use a work or school email address to sign up. You can't sign up using email addresses provided by consumer email services or telecommunication providers. This includes outlook.com, hotmail.com, gmail.com, and others. If you don't have a work or school account, learn about alternate ways to sign up.
  • You can sign-up for Power BI with .gov or .mil addresses, but this requires a different process. For more info, see Enroll your US Government organization in the Power BI service.

Gmail address is not support to sign in Power BI. So when you use the share link, you couldn't see the report you share.

I have a test, when I share with a Power BI user outside of my organization, it works well.

The recipients will got a mail after you share a dashboard with him.1.png

Or you can share the link from share option with your recipients.

When they click on "Open this dashboard" or use the link, they need to sign in their power bi accout and accept to be a guest user. Then they could see the dashboard shared by you.
