Hi,
I have created a dataset in our Organisation's Power BI, and want to give access to this dataset to a person from another company. The other company has Office 365 and a Power BI pro license. What is the best way to give them access to this dataset?
Ideally they could use this dataset as a source in their own PowerBI Desktop.
Thanks,
Max
Thank you for the useful replies. The suggestions were helpful but It looks like my specific requirements aren't fully supported, certainly not in a way that is easy to administer or understand. I have voted and commented on the linked post but it is still about sharing within the Organisation.
I feel like external sharing (even to other pro users) needs a lot of enhancement in PowerBI and I hope there is some progress being made.
Kind regards,
Max

Hi @MaxW,
Based on my research, we are not able to share a dataset with the user outside of the organization and let him create a report based on this shared dataset in Power BI desktop currently. You can vote this similar idea up: Ability to share datasets or connection to other users..

Hi @MaxW
What you could do is to potentially Share the Dashboard with the External User? This will allow them to see the Dashboard and dataset.
If you wanted to share the dataset so that the user can actually connect to it via Power BI Desktop then I think you would need to add the User as a Guest User in your Azure Active Directory.
Here is a great video by Patric La Blanc in which he explains how to allow Guest Access to Azure Analysis Services, but it could possibly be applied to your data?
