Sharepoint and Schedule refresh

Greeting ,

i have a little question here : im kinda new to Power BI , i have Excel files on Sharepoint , im gonna connect to them using PowerBI desktop and by using the Editor query im gonna have some modifications on them !

So , once i upload my work to my service account , do  i need a gateway to be able to use the Schedule refresh ?

and my second question is once i update my file on sharepoint all the modifition in the query will be considered ?

Thanks in advance and sorry for the newbie questions

Hi @Anonymous ,

If your dataset only contains the excel file which is saved in SharePoint online in Office 365, then it needn't to use gateway.

If your dataset not only contains cloud data source but also the on premise data source, then it needs to use the gateway and configure schedule refresh, see more: :On-premises data gateway , Configure scheduled refresh . Note that you also need to select Allow user's cloud data sources to refresh through this gateway cluster option Under Gateway Cluster Settings. See: Merge or append on-premises and cloud data sources.

For your question2, all the modifications for the SharePoint files in Query Editor will be updated when you publish the pbix file to Power BI Service.

Best Regards,

Amy
