Shared/published dashboard in Power BI Premium is requesting a pro license for reading?

Hi all,

I have a Power BI Premium capacity that I want to share with my Power BI Free users.

However, for the life of me I cannot share the dashboards to actually enable the free users to view it.

The funny thing is that sharing reports (so not dashboards) works perfectly fine for free users. It's only dashboards that are a problem.

I have tried the following:

1. I create a blank dashboard that does not contain any data for the test case

2. I share the dashboard to colleagues -> Does not work

3. I publish the App with colleagues -> Does not work (People can't open the app)

Am I missing something here?

Hi @christoffeldg,

If you use Power BI Premium, then free users are able to consume shared dashboards. You said recipients cannot open the dashboard or App, did they see any error message?

Hi there

Have you ensured that your App Workspace is on the Shared Capacity?

Also do you have dashboard items from a single or multiple reports?

Hi,

Very sure it's published in the shared capacity.

And the dashboards themselves are completely empty, no reports are included.

The reports included in the app workspace however don't have any problem and can be viewed by free accounts. Only dashboards (including empty ones) have a problem.

Hi @christoffeldg,

Quoting from the link I previously mentioned :
"When you share with people outside your organization, they get an email with a link to the shared dashboard or report, and they have to sign in to Power BI to see it. If they don't have a Power BI Pro license, they can sign up for a license after clicking the link."
It seems to me that a pro licence is needed for viewing a dashboard. At least for people outside of the company.

Hi Thanosd,

There are no external users involved. These are internal users in what I would assume a very standard situation, just sharing an app to (internal) users with a free account

With regards,

C

I'm not sure why it's not working as it has always worked for me with internal and external users

Hi,

Have you seen that https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/service-share-dashboards?
There is some useful stuff in there..and some troubleshooting tips-like resharing permission from the content creator.

Hope it helps.
