Service Interface: DAX and Data Set visibility

Am not totally familiar with the Service user interface though watching the video tutorials and experimenting....

1. To simply view a dataset (lower icon, left frame) - - must one build a table visual in a report?  is there a more immediate way to view the data?

2. In a table report visual, if one wishes to add a measure - - can this be done in Service or must one return to Desktop for that and republish?  .....looking around for the Add Measure feature in Service and can't find...... Or is there another venue in Service to accomplish this?

@CahabaData Once you have a data set (Connected to a source from the Service, or published a PBIX, all you need to do is click on the dataset and you will be taken to a blank workspace where you will see the model in the Fields panel to the far right. From here you can start building a new report.

If you are asking if there is a "Data View" - like in the Desktop, then "no" there is not.

At this point in time, the Service only allows you to use whatever you have built in your model. You would need to build additional measures/calculations in the Desktop and republish the file in order to have access to it in the Service.

The only two things the Service and Desktop share is the report building part.

The Desktop has all the model and transform capability

The Service has the Dashboarding and sharing capability

thanks for the sanity check on this.....  I do see questions in the Community Service side discussing Measures and such .....without any explicit instruction to return to the Desktop to do the work.... so I was wondering if I was missing something.......
