Security with Power BI Apps

Hi,

I'm currently using organizational content packs to share hand picked dashboards and reports with specific users in my organization. All my revenue and production reports are based off the same data model. The content packs are nice because i dont have to share the dataset to the user so people who can only see production stuff cant snoop into the data model and see revenue information. Ive read that the content packs are being phased out and Apps are the way to go. My concern with the Apps is it looks like when you share an app to users they have access to the entire underlying dataset as opposed to a content pack where you can filter out the underlying dataset. Is it possible to share an app without them having access to the underlying dataset?

As mentioned I currently use one large data model which is nice because i dont have to manage a bunch of desktop files its all in one place. If i seperated the different reports in my workspace into their own App workspace wouldnt that just create more files to manage and refresh gateways to maintain?

Im fairly new to this so im still learning best practices and would appreciate any feedback.

Thanks!

Hi @Bpark1994,

For the first issue, with apps, you can publish a read-only version of your app workspace to large audiences, they could not have the access to the dataset.

Reference: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/service-create-distribute-apps#what-about-read-only-member...

For the second issue, you could understand like this, because an app has a 1:1 relationship with its workspace.
