Scheduled refresh failing: there's not enough memory to complete this operation

Morning all,

I'm receiving this message this morning on several datasets (I have had this in the past occasionally, no pattern though, seems to be at random);

failed to refresh.
Failure details: There's not enough memory to complete this operation. Please try again later when there may be more memory available.

This comes in via email so it's the online service and scheduled refresh that's the issue. All data is hosted in SharePoint (Online) so there's no internal servers or connections at this end involved, everything is in the "Microsoft Cloud World".

Does anyone have any idea what the cause might be please and/or how to resolve it?

Cheers

Rob

Hi @MarmiteLove ,

Yes, judging from your error message, it should be caused by insufficient memory you have in the power bi service. If you usually involve more reports and they are larger, I would more recommend you to buy premium capacity to meet the refresh.

Hi @MarmiteLove ,

As the error message says, "there is not enough memory" to implement your entire refresh. Perhaps you have more queries, etc. designed in your dataset that consume more memory than you have left, or perhaps you have multiple datasets refreshing at the same time and the load is caused.

If possible, please make sure that only the current dataset is refreshed during the time period that you refresh this dataset. If there are still errors, you may need to upgrade to Advanced Capacity to avoid memory limitations.

Hi,

So to confirm, are you suggesting the memory problem is with the Power BI service, and that memory level it determined by the licence level? We're currently just using the standard Power BI wrapped up in our 365 Business Premium.

thanks
