Scheduled Refresh using R Integration with Power BI

Hi All,

Currently I created the file using R to export data from BI. Data souce were granted as Public level. After published the file to web and refresh manually, the error was shown below "This dataset includes a dynamic data source. Since dynamic data sources aren't refreshed in the Power BI service, this dataset won't be refreshed. Learn more: https://aka.ms/dynamic-data-sources. Data source for Query1"

Can you please advice?

Thank,

Hi. There is a limitation for the "Standard" on premise data gateway that won't let you use it with R or Python. You can try installing as "Personal" on premise data gateway. That one should get the dynamic query to solve it.

Hope that helps,

Hi @Thas_Michael ,

After you've uploaded the .pbix file to the Power BI service, you need to take additional steps to enable service data refresh and updated visuals:

  • Enable scheduled refresh for the dataset: To enable scheduled refresh for the workbook containing your dataset with R scripts, see Configuring scheduled refresh. This article also includes information about personal gateways.
  • Install a personal gateway: You need a personal gateway installed on the machine where the file and R are located. The Power BI service accesses that workbook and re-renders any updated visuals. For more information, see Use personal gateways in Power BI.

Also I found this similar post, please kindly refer to

All steps to install gateway personal are ready from very begining. No issue with gateway.

Hi @ibarrau ,

Actually personal gate way was installed in earlier. My expectation is able to schedule report. However, in 1st step, refreshing data manually already got failure in web.

Thanks,
