Retrieving used datasource (e.g. SQL view) per dataset

Hi All

I'd like to create an overview per dataset in the Power BI Service, of what underlying datasources are being used.
E.g. a SalesManagerDaily dataset consumes
               - a SQL view (SELECT * FROM V_SalesManagerDaily)
               - an Excelfile (Server\\Fileshare\PowerBI\...)

I've tried to fetch this info either through the API and also the Gateway Logs, without success.
- The API doesn't contain the info of the underlying datasource or query (i.e. what views are consumed)
- The gatewaylog doesn't contain the link from the datasource & query, to the dataset (i see the consumed view & statement that is being launched to the server, but not from which dataset the action originated)

Reason i need this would be to communicate to all affected report creators / key users when a change to an underlying view (e.g. V_SalesManagerDaily) is be implemented.

Thanks in advance for your ideas & input!

Kr,
Tom

Hi @TomBergmans,

Based on my test, it is not possible to meet your requirement currently. You can come up a new idea about that and add your comments there to improve Power BI and make this feature coming sooner.

Hi @TomBergmans,

Why do not use the Usage metrics for dashboards and reports?

Hi Frank

Thanks for your swift response.
However, the usage metrics dashboard does not contain the information that i'm looking for (i.e. view/ query) under a datasource...

Any help or confirmation that this information currently is not extractable out of the Power BI Service would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks
Tom
