Replace old report with new report and new dataset

I have a report called "report A" that points to data set "dataset A".  I have pointed Report A to a new dataset "data set B" and published.  It has created a new report with the same name.

I need to update the existing report with the new dataset as my users have lots of dashboards and notifications built on the old report.

Hi  @ASADS ,

According to your question and requirement, you want to modify the corresponding dataset for report A to dataset B directly and do not want to republish and generate a new report and dataset on desktop (equivalent to changing the corresponding dataset for the same report), right? As far as I know, there is no direct feature in Power BI to modify the report's corresponding dataset directly and keep the report unchanged, but you can try to create a new workspace and use the Deployment pipeline feature to generate a copy version of the report to a new workspace by defining You can define a "Deployment pipeline Rule" at deploy time, which allows you to modify the data source directly for the report using the parameter function at deploy time, you can check if this will work for you as it is the only solution available as far as I know.

In the end, I came to the same conclusion that this is not supported through the UI and would need a more involved solution.  It was quicker to publish the new report remove the old one and re-create the subscriptions and dashboards manually.  I've accepted your solution.

Are you sure you didn't publish to a different workspace?
