Replace a web report with a new web report

Hi,

I have a report that I created from the desktop which let's assume I named Report A.

I made a copy of Report A in the web service to include some hiden pages and I saved this new report directly in the web and let's say I named it Report B. I need the 2 separate reports as the are intended for different audiences.

Now, I made a few changes to Report A in desktop, and then published from desktop to replace the previosu file I had. All good up to here.

However, then I again saved a copy of Report A directly in the web, to include the hidden pages and then replace Report B with it. Unfortunately, this did not replace Report B with my new version of the report, but instead created a duplicate Report B in the Workspace.

How can I fix this so that I can replace Report B directly in the web? Keep in mind I want to use the 1 file in desktop as the source of these 2 reports, and I don't want to publish them separately from the desktop as I want them to share the sate dataset. That's why I was taking the approach I explained above.

Thanks.

HI @Banistas ,

In fact, power bi service not only checks the report name but also check the internal 'report id'. (if the report name and report id matched with the specific report, it will replace the old one. otherwise, power bi will keep the old report and publish a renamed version of the report)
In summary, you need to open your report file and find out the report id and replace 'internal' report id that stored in service side. (I think it is more complex than direct remove cloud 'report b', rename local pbix file and publish to power bi service side)

Thanks @v-shex-msft,

I'm not sure I know how to change the ID and that seems a lot more complicated that it really shoudl be for waht I want to achieve.

Based on this, I think I will go for having 2 different reports published with 2 identical datasets. Seems like the easiest solution, even though it's probably not the ideal one. Thanks for your suggestion in any case.

Perhaps something along the lines of, copy your PBIX file (Report A) to Report B. Publish Report B overwriting your current Report B, make changes as necessary.

Hi @Greg_Deckler ,

Not sure how I could acomplish this ensuring that I end up with the same Dataset for both reports. Would you be able to share some quick "how to" with me please?

Thanks
