Hey there,
i'm currently building a PoC for a customer.
I created a Power BI Connector with M which does the OAuth2 Flow and calls the REST-API.
I use AWS API Gateway with Lambda Function as REST-API and AWS Cognito for authentication.
That all functions very well.
The refresh on Power BI Desktop works fine, i publish the report to my workspace and the refresh there does not work. If i download the report again und open it in Power BI Desktop, it's refreshing normal.
I read about the Power BI Gateway, but that's only for on premise datasource (that's what i've read). My source is on AWS and the connector calls the REST-API.
Expected behaviour: On refresh call the REST API, get the current data und put them in the report.
Actual behaviour: Refresh in Power BI Desktop works fine, in published report online the refresh does not work.
Maybe someone can help?
Thanks in advance.
Hi
Did you perhaps find any solution for this issue?
Hi DesNaidoo,
i payed for the pro account to get support for my issue.
I had three long calls with a very friendly guy and explained him what
i want to do. He forwarded my request to the internal power bi team.
Sadly it's not possible to get a refresh without using a gateway which
is very strange from my point of view.
The Power BI Gateway is introduced with
"Connect to on-premises data sources with a Power BI gateway".
I have a complete Cloud setup and the connector is calling a REST-API to get the data in the first place.
Why isn't the published report calling the REST-API again on the refresh?
I told the customer (a very big customer btw) that it's not possible in the "normal" way or the way i think it would be possible.
Best regards
I would install a gateway and see if it works. As you say, shouldn't need it but I would test if it works. Then You could check the Issues forum here:
https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Issues/idb-p/Issues
And if it is not there, then you could post it.
If you have Pro account you could try to open a support ticket. If you have a Pro account it is free. Go to https://support.powerbi.com. Scroll down and click "CREATE SUPPORT TICKET".
