Refreshing Excel data sources with gateway cluster

I have successfully setup my cloud gateway to refresh a dataset linked to an on-prem excel spreadsheet. This was done by manually adding the file path of the network share to the gateway, \\servername\some-folder\Book1.xlsx The issue is now that every time we want to create a new report/dataset we have to manually add the file to the gateway, this doesn't seem practical for all users. Is there a way to just link a whole folder \\servername\some-folder and be able to refresh any of the contents within this? Thanks

Hi dcullen,

your question is a bit confusing.

A excel sheet is handled by power bi like any database. So, for every new excel sheet you have to add this to the gateway.

If you want to refresh the data in the excel file you should overwrite the excisting Excel File with the same name.

If you want to build a new Report based on the same data you can connect your new Report in Power BI Desktop to the excisting Dataset who is already connected to the local file.

I hope this answered your question if not let me know.

Thank you, yes this did answer my question. I'm unable to 'accept as an answer' as internal firewall is blocking some javascripts.
