Refresh failing, but only in "My Workspace"

I have a Power BI pro license and I have developed some reports from 5 small tables in Smartsheets (biggest table is about 15 columns x 300 rows. Mostly a mix of text & dates). The .PBIX file is about 1.5 Mb

No errors from any of the 5 tables when I refresh/load them in Power BI Desktop, with very minimual transformation steps (removing blanks/bad dates etc.)

I published the report to "My Workspace" in Power BI Service

I also published the exact same report at the same time to a premium capacity workspace that was made available to me (Diamond after name).

The scheduled (and on demand) refreshes on the My Workspaces version of the report started randomly failing this morning and had previously being working without any hiccups.

The same scheduled refreshes on the same report in Premium Capacity workspace are working fine.

The error is:

"There was an error when processing the data in the dataset. There's not enough memory to complete this operation. Please try again later when there may be more memory available."

I downloaded a .PBIX version of the report from my workspace to see if I could reverse engineer any additional errors in Power BI desktop, but there arent issues when I refresh the tables in the desktop.

Are there are specific "My Workspace" restrictions that I should be aware of?

Are there any other debug steps or ideas that I could take to further isolate the issue?

Thanks,
Gerard

Hi @Gerard_Plante

The reason it fails in My Workspace is that you only get 1GB of memory allocated.

While when it is in Premium Capacity you can get depending on the allocation 25GB of memory more more.

Hi, @Gerard_Plante

There is an explanation in the document:

The maximum size for datasets imported into the Power BI service is 1 GB. These datasets are heavily compressed to ensure high performance. In addition, in shared capacity, the service places a limit on the amount of uncompressed data that is processed during refresh to 10 GB. This limit accounts for the compression, and therefore is much higher than 1 GB. Datasets in Power BI Premium are not subject to this limit. If refresh in the Power BI service fails for this reason, please reduce the amount of data being imported to Power BI and try again.

You need to check whether the capacity in my workspace is almost full, and you also need to check whether there are a large number of datasets in the organization when this dataset is refreshed at the same time. If so, please avoid it.

If it doesn't solve the problem, Please feel free to ask me.

Best Regards

Janey Guo
