Recreating shared dataset

Hi there,

We had an employee which was responsible for all PBI issues in his department.

He created reports and datasets and shared with others, who created their own reports based on shared datasets that he created.

That employee left, and IT immediatly deleted all his folders. So now the original PBIX files with the original data sets are gone.

The shared datasets started experiencing some issues in calculated columns, and his team mates contacted the BI department.
Since all their reports are live connection, using PBI Desktop we can't see the DAX behind those calculated columns.

Is there a way to recreate / retrieve the original dataset from shared workspace, so we can investigate the issues and retrieve the code?

Thanks!

Hi  @YOV ,

The Analysis Services data source is in Live Connection mode, and Live Connection cannot create calculated columns. This option is grayed out in the PBI desktop. You can go to the AS source data to create a new column.

This is the related document, you can view this content:

Best Regards,

Liu Yang

@YOV You should be able to into the workspace where the shared dataset lives and download the PBIX file.

Thank you @Greg_Deckler .

I can download the PBIX, but it shows the calculated columns as 'built in' columns, as if the calculated columns were added on analysis service.

We can't edit them or see the code.

In Lineage I can see the report connecting live to a dataset, so there's no model behind it. I'm trying to have the ability to edit calculated columns added in dataset, but we just can't access it.

@YOV Right, I was saying that you need to go to where that live dataset is published and download THAT PBIX.
