Hi,
i've set up an RLS in the PBIX Desktop and published it to power bi service. Everything is working fine so far.
Now this Workspace where the dataset is published is a developer enviroment, without any reports.
Reports are made in a new pbix file via live connection to this dataset and published to a separate workspace.
Now my questions:
- is the RLS working also in the other workspace?
- can I test the view role in another workspace, where the dataset is just linked? (Just like it's possible in the workspace where the dataset is)
Many thanks in advance.

Hi @marc_frei ,
You are correct.

Hi @collinq ,
yes, but this is only possible in the workspace where the dataset is uploaded. In the workspace, where there is just a report with a live connection to the dataset in the other workspace, I couldn't select the View Role. Not in Desktop not in Service.
Do I miss something?
Hi @marc_frei ,
Take a look at this document.

thank you @v-jayw-msft . So this means RLS is working in the other workspace, but there is no way to test it (View Role) without logging in with the specifics account.
Hi @marc_frei ,
You are correct.

HI @marc_frei ,
You can do the "view role" in Desktop AND in the Service. If you go to the RLS settings, you can select "test as role" in the service. This article explains this in detail:Row-level security (RLS) with Power BI - Power BI | Microsoft Docs
I would appreciate Kudos if my response was helpful. I would also appreciate it if you would Mark this As a Solution if it solved the problem. Thanks!
