Hello All,
Can anyone confirm which below are True or False and fill in the missing details so we can better plan future reporting based on the limitations of PBI?
Live connection to SharePoint Online List through PBI on the server is an option – T/F
If True, what is required for when user to open report it will refresh the dataset? A Gateway?
If False, is the - on hour / on half scheduled refreshes the only for way report viewers to see refreshed data without report creator intervention? – T/F
If True, then to increase likelihood someone is looking at most recent data we should schedule refresh for every hour and half hour during day?
If False, is there a way for a report user to refresh the dataset themselves when viewing the report or is there some other way to cause a report refresh trigger?
For other connections (ex: SQL Server) – through gateway or other means is there an option to establish a live dataset connection – T/F
If True, is there a guide on how to go about getting this setup?
If False, does that means (unlike Tableau) – Power BI does not support live data should not be used as an option for real time business analytics?
Finally, is there a data cap of refreshes per report or team – say if we have a report with millions of records refreshed multiple times a day is there a cap – T/F
If True, how do we find / understand that cap and check if we are approaching it?
If False, then no further questions.
If there is a better source to help with these questions please let me know!
Thanks in advance!

Hi @Ynr0225
Please see the answers below.
Live connection to SharePoint Online List through PBI on the server is an option – T/F
- FALSE, it is currently not available
If False, is the - on hour / on half scheduled refreshes the only for way report viewers to see refreshed data without report creator intervention? – T/F
- TRUE if you are running Power BI Premium Per User or Premium
For other connections (ex: SQL Server) – through gateway or other means is there an option to establish a live dataset connection – T/F
TRUE - This is possible using DirectQuery
Finally, is there a data cap of refreshes per report or team – say if we have a report with millions of records refreshed multiple times a day is there a cap – T/F
FALSE - If have a Power BI Pro license you can refresh 8 times a day. If you have Power BI Premium Per User or Premium, you can use the scheduled refeshing 48 times a day (every 30mins) in the Power BI Service, or can call the refresh via the API as many times as you want. (Note that if a refresh is already happening it will not start another one)
