Published report from different sources doesn't work

I have a report with 3 different sources:

1. Excel file

2. PBI Calendar table

3. Tables from the DWH (SQL DB)

The report works at desktop, but when i pulish it and open from the service, i get the error:

"This data source cannot be accsessed by a data gateway..."

I've tryed to publish both: my workspace and group workspace.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Hi @Anonymous,

Did you use the lateste version of gateway? Did you use the on-prem gateway or personal one? You can try to update the latest one and try again. Do add all the datasource to the gateway in Power BI Service. If any other question, feel free to let me know please.

Regards,

Frank

I think my problem is because of the differnet sources and live connection. May be the cloud is not able to see the network and the source?

We have one gateway there the DWH was defined as well as the Cube, but my sources are DWH + Excel + PBI Calendar

Are you sure that it's just not a warning? Seems that there is a new warning displayed when you publish a model that has sources that the Power BI Service feels that it cannot refresh. It is just a warning that the Power BI Service will not be able to automatically refresh your data.

Unfortunately, that's not a warning.

If i could attach the file, i'll show you the error.

The entire report doesn't show any tables, the only "X" or "cannot display the visual" errors

You should be able to upload a screen shot using Photos

Oh, I take it that you are using a DirectQuery (Live) connection to your data warehouse? If that is the case then you will need to install a data gateway so that the Power BI Service can access the data in real time. Or, you could switch to Import mode and import the data from the data warehouse instead.

Thank you, Greg, for your answer, but i have already a defined gateway.

I'm not sure how it works when we have different sources. like excel table and DB tables, may be that's the reason?

I have other reports connecting to the exists gateway and it works excelent.

Right, there have been definite historical issues with having multiple different data sources where *I believe* this worked with a Personal Gateway but not an Enterprise Gateway. You may be running into this issue. Which type of gateway do you have installed, which mode?

Hello,

I believe that should show up in the Service when you are scheduling a refresh.

I would recommend taking a look at these three articles:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/service-gateway-onprem

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/service-gateway-onprem-indepth

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/service-gateway-personal-mode

One thing to look for would be to make certain that the data source that you have is supported by the gateway (1st article).
