Processing error - are there limits to what can be refreshed

Hi,

I uploaded a new and larger version of a model to the Power BI Service last night. This morning I have recienved an email telling me that 'An error occurred while processing the data in the dataset'. There was a Learn More button but when I clicked on it I got a 404 Content Not Found message. I have two questions:

1) Is there a way to find out what the error was?

2) Are there limits to how much data the PBI Service can refresh, or on how long the refresh takes? The model that I uploaded last night has two new tables in it that are very large, one has 1.6 million rows and the other has 2.08 million rows. Is that too much? The model refreshed on my desktop but took over two hours.

The data is being taken from CRM Online (now called Dynamics 365).

Thanks

Ian

HI @IanR,

Current on power bi service contains limit of data size, row count and column amount, you can try to filter on your source and test again.

Considerations and Limitations

For all data sources used in the Power BI service, the following considerations and limitations apply. There are other limitations that apply to specific features, but the following list apply to the Power BI service overall:

  • Dataset size limit - there is a 1 GB limit for each dataset in the Power BI service.
  • Row limit - the maximum number of rows in your dataset (when not using DirectQuery) is 2 billion, with three of those rows reserved (resulting in a usable maximum of 1,999,999,997 rows); the maximum number of rows when using DirectQuery is 1 million rows.
  • Column limit - the maximum number of columns allowed in a dataset, across all tables in the dataset, is 16,000 columns. This applies to the Power BI service and to datasets used in Power BI Desktop. Power BI uses an internal row number column per table included in the dataset, which means the maximum number of columns is 16,000 minus one for each table used in the dataset.

Thanks Xiaoxin,

Do yopu know if those are new limits? I've managed to find a post from last year which says that the limit is 250 MB per data set and 1 GB for all datasets combined.

HI @IanR,

BTW, power bi has also have receiving uncompressed data limit.  you can take a look at following link to know more about this limitation:
