Problem with refreshing Direct Query report

I have run into an issue with one of my Power BI reports that utilise Direct Query - namely that this one report suddenly won't refresh any data. For instance today it has been working well, but then suddenly it just stops being able to refresh the data (see screenshot):

My other Power BI reports utilizing Direct Query still works and they are pulling data from the same database - so it shouldn't be connectivity issues that are to blame.

 

Unfortunately this refresh issue breaks the tiles based on the report that I use in my dashboards:

 

Do any of you know what might be causing this refresh issue? Also worth noting is that the Direct Query reports uses an Enterprise Gateway.

@andershh

 

Please update your On-premise/Personal Gateway into latest version. Re-sign in with your account to see if this dataset can be refreshed properly. If the refresh still fails, please re-create the data source under "Manage Gateway".

 

If it still doesn't work, please create a support ticket.

The gateway is the latest version, so that can't be the reason. However, the Direct Query has been refreshing without issues in the last couple of days.

Nevertheless, here is the error from the gateway log for good measure:

@v-sihou-msft Thanks. However the issue is happening not only in powerBI.com but in desktop as well.

 

To eliminate all network considerations , i have the desktop installed on the same machine as SSAS Instance  - 2016 SP1and even there it clocks.

 

Works fine when i point the desktop to 2012 SSAS Instance.

 

I did create a support ticket and they closed it stating this was not a powerbi issue but an SSAS Issue.

 

I think its a combination of PowerBI and SSAS where the DAX to MDX Translation is working differently in SSAS 2016.

Hi @andershh can you check the error logs in the gateway. if u login to the gateway you should see the path where the error logs are. Also you may do a test connection on the gateway.

Another brute force approach you can try is to restart the gateway service.
