Hi: My client is having trouble creating a Power BI Account. It gets an error when they trying to set up a new account through the Power Bi Web.

This is the link used to register:

https://signup.microsoft.com/signup?sku=a403ebcc-fae0-4ca2-8c8c-7a907fd6c235&email&ru=https%3A%2F%2F...

This is the error:

This site can’t be reached

IP address in server sts.___.___.pe could not be found.

Try execute Windows net diagnose

DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN

Aditional info:

  • Client had exchange with outlook then migrated to google
  • AD version 6.3.9600.16384. runs on Windows Server 2012 R2 standard x64. No ADFS

We’ve tried some solutions we found on forums, but couldn’t fix it so far. Any help would be appreciated

Regards

Alberto

Hi @albertoderossi

First please confirm the email account is working correctly.

If you have trouble sign up a power bi account with this email, please change another availble email, below is some advice and consideration you need to know about creating a new account.

self-service sign up

If you are having problems signing up for Power BI with your work email address, try signing up for an Office 365 trial first and then signing up for Power BI.

Then there is an article about How To Fix Error Code DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN you may read to find some ideas.

Best Regards

Maggie

Hi there

From the error message it appears that the Microsoft Exchange Servers cannot locate the MX record to email to.
Could you confirm that it is indeed working and can receive emails?

Hi Gilbert. Thanks for your reply

No, Exchange is not currently working. It was disabled when migrating to gmail. It looks like something got "stuck" in Exchange cloud, and old accounts are "still there", so to speak. It seems like Power BI Service is trying to find'em.

Hi there,

I would first confirm that the emails are working and then try and sign up again
