Power BI service refresh failure e-mail notifications

Hello,

When I receive automatic e-mail notifications about Power BI reports/datasets failing to refresh in the Power BI service, the e-mail is accompanied by the following information:

Technical information:

Activity ID: b5drexds-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxx

Request ID: 6c0cee39-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxx

Cluster Name: WABI-xx-xx-xxxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx

refresh start time: datetime

refresh end time: datetime

Where can I view the error message(s) associated with the activity/request IDs? Are these available in the Windows event log/Azure? Notification e-mails are helpful, but don't provide enough information about where to start diagnosing.

Thanks,

pbix

Hi there

When you get the error, you can go into the Settings, then Dataset then refresh settings. Here it sometimes gives you more information.

If that fails then look to try and open the PBIX and refresh that?

Also ensure that you have got the latest version of the On-Premise Data gateway installed, so that it matches your PBIX file to ensure that the Mashup Engines are the same version.

Thank you @GilbertQ.

Yes, that solved my problem - I do however think though that the PBI service could make some error messages more transparent without having to open the project via the desktop application.

Thanks,

Hi @pbix

Yes that could always be made a bit better, and I am certain that they are working on that.
